Sound check counts among the important steps prior to big concerts or any type of musical performances for obvious reasons.  Among other things, it has to be ensured that the right sound mix is delivered and the speakers are positioned right.  The same goes for home theater speaker systems. To appreciate fully your home entertainment center, you got to position the system’s speakers right.

In a setup for home theater systems, the placement of the loudspeakers and subwoofers is probably the most critical.  Your setup will be determined by such factors as the room shape and its acoustics, and the type of speakers you have.

For starters, you may follow some general guidelines which could be sufficient for basic installations in a rectangular room.  Appropriate adjustments have to be taken if you are installing a sound system in other room shapes and with different types of acoustics as well as speakers.

The front of the listening section is where you should directly place the front center channel speaker.  This area should be either above or below the TV, projection screen or video display. The subwoofer position should be to the left or right of the TV.  It is also important that the left and right main/front speakers are placed equidistant at about a 30-degree angle from the front center channel speaker.  The left and right surround speakers can be placed above the listeners, about 90-100 degrees from the center channel, slightly behind or to the side of the listening area.
